Buscopan is a drug that contains an active substance called hyoscine butylbromide. It belongs to the antispasmodics (drugs that relieve muscle spasms).

This medicine reduce spasms in the muscles of internal organs (especially urinary and digestive organs), therefore it is used to treat pain originating in these organs. It is effective in the treatment of moderate to severe stomach pain.

Buscopan may be used in following conditions:

• Acute gastrointestinal spasm
• Acute biliary spasm
• Acute genitourinary spasm
• Gall and renal colic
• Gastroduodenal endoscopy as an aid in the diagnosis

Short-term treatment 20 tablet pack is 2.5 days treatment. This short course won't mask more serious conditions requiring GP attention.
